Checking Up on Physician Adoption of Health IT [Infographic]
The year ahead is shaping up as a critical one for physician adoption of health IT. Starting in 2015, eligible providers are subject to Medicare reimbursement penalties if they fail to participate in the Medicare Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Program. Then on October 1, if there are no further delays, the ICD-10 implementation deadline kicks in triggering a mandatory switchover to the revised coding system.
All of this is triggering some anxiety among doctors, as highlighted in the infographic below from Deloitte's 2014 Survey of U.S. Physicians. The company's annual check-up on physician adoption of health IT shows interest in mHealth is strong but monitoring patients' conditions and adherence through mHealth is not. The survey also found that most (56%) of respondents are currently at Meaningful Use Stage 2, but 26% are at Stage 1 and 18% have not started MU implementation at all.
