More than 43,000 health IT professionals and enthusiasts flocked to Las Vegas for the 2018 HIMSS Conference and Exhibition. The conference was a week long from March 5 to March 9th at the Venetian, Palazzo, and Sands Expo Center.
The event kicked off with an opening keynote on Monday evening by Eric Schmidt, Technical Advisor and Former Executive Chairman of Alphabet Inc. (parent company of Google). His keynote focused on “technology for a healthier future” and he shared with the audience that the future of healthcare lies in machine learning, cloud technology, and killer apps.
Other notable keynote speakers included: David Shulkin, Secretary of Veteran Affairs; Vice Admiral Raquel C. Bono, Director at Defense Health Agency; Heller Rinaudo, Founder & CEO of Zipline; and Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jr., Role Model, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Magic Johnson Enterprises.

Conference topics ranged from connected health and telehealth to privacy and security, but the conference really buzzed with talk of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and patient personalization strategies.
With thousands of attendees all equipped with their smartphones and portable chargers, there was a lot of great conversation to follow on Twitter. Here are a few of our favorite tweets from the week:
